In a black-and-white world of shadows and streetlights, hardboiled detective
Stone is framed for murder. This is the story mystery novelist Stine is adapting
into a screenplay but an egotistical producer-director constantly demands
rewrites. The stress overwhelms Stine and the fictional Stone steps out of the
"reel" world to confront the author. A Tony-Award winner for best musical, book
and score.
