The Poisonwood Bible is an amazing story about a missionary family in the Belgian Congo. I am not normally a fan of books about people struggling with the elements or stuck in the wild, but the characters are so interesting and realistic that the story truly comes to life. The narration style is very unique- it switches between the wife and the four daughters of Nathan Price, a devoted Baptist preacher who tries to bring his religion to the Congo. The perspectives of the four daughters and wife are all so different yet so interesting. I would highly recommend this book to high school aged readers. It is also full of motifs and themes, an added bonus for those doing summer English projects!
