Call to Order/Roll Call Renee Kozlowski called the November 7, 2018 meeting of the Youth Leadership Council (YLC)to order at 5:15 p.m. in Main Fire Station Conference Room, 300 B Avenue, Lake Oswego, Oregon. Members Present: River Smith, Natalie Goldberg, Seba Marin-Quiros, Claire Fennell,Jensen Kaelin, Renee Kozlowski, Michael Murray, Kyle Langford, Sofia Marin-Quiros Members Excused/Absent Brooke Baker, Margo Sidline Staff: Jenny Slepian, Sustainability and Management Analyst Public: None Announcements from Board and Staff None Approval of Minutes The September and October minutes were approved. Public Comment None Regular Business A. Council Update Councilor Buck gave a recap of recent and upcoming Council meetings: • Council will be looking at a ban on plastic bags at the December 4 meeting • The new City Hall redesign was presented to the City Council • The Mayor has asked for a resolution on whether youth should vote on B&C's after a decision at the Parks Board. Seba thought youth should vote if the kids have to sit at meetings. Kyle said the board picks kids, so they should be able to vote.The Youncil talked about the information that was given to the kids who voted- Kyle pointed out that there are always misinformed voters. River pointed out that the youth are being selected to serve on that board for a reason, and their appointment shouldn't have stipulation. Michael will write a letter and coordinate with The Review. • There was discussion about who the next Council liaison to the Youth Council might be. B. Election Recap There was a brief conversation about last night's midterm elections. Seba was glad that Measure 105 did not pass. Most of the councilors were happy about all the ballot measure results. Renee was excited about all the women who won congressional seats.There was also a discussion about voter suppressions in other states. C. LO Speaks • Discussed the applicants for youth speakers.There was some debate about whether to hold auditions or interviews. Decided that the councilors who know them best would contact them about their speeches. • Reviewed schedule: o Need to have all speakers set by early December- next YLC meeting o HelloLO article will be due on December 15 o Looking at getting sponsorships, but none so far o Will look at whether we can sell concessions o T-shirts! Sell t-shirts here! The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm.
