A recent review of the site outlines several inadequacies including the need for a additional space, code issues, incongruent uses, and problems that routinely arise due to the facility being used beyond its lifespan. Various reviews of the site and replacement have occurred. Due to the nature and size of the facility, relocation options are limited. Current plans call for replacing the facility at its present location. However, other sites are considered as they become available.
This site plays a key role for First Responders to many significant incidents that the City and residents can face (road, waterline and sewer repairs, as well as weather related issues). The adoption and implementation of a funding strategy for this high priority facility is being considered in relationship to other City facility needs.
The existing Operations (Maintenance Services) Department is located on an approximately 6.3 acre site with access to three roads including Jean Road, Willow Lane, and Pilkington Road. The major elements of the site include vehicle and equipment storage, the maintenance administration building, the parks maintenance/storage building, a police evidence building, the parks department building, a truck storage building, a fueling station, a truck wash pad, soil storage bins, skate park, a storm water retention pond, grade material storage, and staff parking.
