DTEND:20130504T210000Z
URL;VALUE=URI:http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/fire/child-safety-seat-clinic-0
DESCRIPTION:The Lake Oswego Fire Department and the Lake Oswego Police Department hold \n free quarterly safety seat clinics open to all citizens. Certified Child \n Passenger Safety Technicians will check for correct installation\, damage\, \n recalls\, and size and age appropriateness. Each seat takes about 30 minutes \n to check.\n \n The next clinic will be on May 4\, 2013\, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.\, at the Main \n Fire Station\, 300 B Avenue.\n \n All events are held at the Main Fire Station at 300 B Avenue\, at the corner \n of Third and B. Call 503-635-0275 during regular business hours for more \n information on the clinics.\n \n .. Vehicle crashes remain the number one killer of children ages 3-14 in the\n United States. \n \n Child safety seats\, booster seats and seat belts are the best occupant \n protection. According to the CDC\, placing children in age- and \n size-appropriate car seats and booster seats reduces serious and fatal \n injuries by more than half.\n \n According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [1] (NHTSA)\, \n installing and using child safety seats may appear to be easy enough\, but 3 \n out of 4 parents do not properly use child restraints. Often installation is \n incorrect or the wrong type of seat is being used for the child's height\, \n weight or age. For these children\, the safety seat may not be protecting them \n the way it should.\n \n Oregon Occupant Protection Laws\n \n * Child Restraints: Child passengers must be restrained in approved child\n safety seats until they weigh 40 pounds or reach the upper weight limit\n for the car seat in use. Infants must ride rear facing until they reach\n both one year of age AND 20 pounds.\n * Booster Seats: Children over 40 pounds OR who have reached the upper\n weight limit of their car seat’s harness system\, must use a booster seat\n until they are 4’9” tall OR age 8.\n * Safety Belts: A child taller than 4’9” OR age 8 or older must be\n properly secured with the vehicle’s safety belt. The child is properly\n secured if the lap belt is positioned low across the thighs and the\n shoulder belt is positioned over the collarbone and away from the neck.\n \n More local safety information:\n \n ACTS Oregon's Child Safety Seat Resource Center\n 8059 SW Cirrus Dr.\n Beaverton\, OR 97008\n 503-643-5620 or 1-800-772-1315\n safety@actsoregon.org [2]\n \n \n [1] http://www.nhtsa.gov/Safety/CPS\n [2] mailto:safety@actsoregon.org

DESCRIPTION:The Lake Oswego Public Library is very pleased to present Puppetkabob's \n “The Snowflake Man” on Wednesday\, May 8th at 1 p.m.  \n \n The story of “The Snowflake Man” is inspired by Wilson “Snowflake” \n Bentley\, a self-educated farmer and scientist who attracted world attention \n in 1885 when he became the first person to capture the image of a single snow \n crystal. “The Snowflake Man” is a unique trunk show of Czech-style \n marionettes and props backed by a pop-up book of watercolor paintings telling \n the story of Snowflake Bentley. This show combines art\, science and a little \n known piece of American history to magical effect!\n \n This free program is presented with the generous support of the Friends of \n the Lake Oswego Public Library. The Lake Oswego Public Library is located at \n 706 4th Street\, Lake Oswego. For more information\, contact Fawn McGee at \n 503-675-3995.

All are welcome to attend\; the event is \n free and open to the public.\n \n "The Greenest Building"\, by former Lake Oswego resident and producer Jane \n Turville\, presents a compelling look at the important role building reuse \n plays in creating sustainable communities. Narrated by David Ogden Stiers of \n the hit TV series M*A*S*h\, the film explores the myth that a “green \n building” is a new building and demonstrates how renovation and adaptive \n reuse of existing structures fully achieves the sustainability movement’s \n “triple bottom line” - economic\, social\, and ecological balance. For more \n information\, please visit www.thegreenestbuildingmovie.com [1].\n \n Jane Turville will be on hand following the screening to talk briefly about \n the film and to answer questions. DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Rogerson Clematis Collection present ‘INVITING VINES \n VI’\, a tour of five private gardens in Southwest Portland and the Rogerson \n Clematis Collection garden at Luscher Farm in Lake Oswego on\n \n *Saturday\, May 25\, 2013 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.*\n See how local Southwest Portland gardeners integrate the ‘Queen of Vines’ \n into their personal versions of paradise: from a suburban garden where dwarf \n conifers and other textural plants vie for attention with structures built \n from repurposed materials to two urban gardens in the John’s Landing \n neighborhood.\n GARDEN DESCRIPTIONS\n \n Ann Murphy\, Marketing Director for the Oregon Association on Nurseries\, opens \n her verdant and lush garden for the first time. Gravel walkways meander \n through this woodland under-story garden thriving beneath a canopy of firs \n and sequoias. Sunny spaces are devoted to raising food. A 1\,500 gallon \n cistern resides under a deck capturing rainwater that is recycled in the dry \n season. Garden designer Susan Latourette’s garden features a raised summer \n house\, circular fire pit and plants chosen for their textural attributes. In \n his 15 years spent transforming an over-sized city lot Rick Meigs has created \n an intimate sanctuary that celebrates and contrasts the forms\, textures and \n shapes of the plants\, each selected for what they contribute to the overall \n scene. In a garden designed to showcase diverse habitats\, botanist Peter \n Goldblatt emphasizes small shrubs\, bulbs\, alpines and trailing plants among \n others. A beautiful hand built waterfall and pond transition from the sunny \n front garden to the back garden where plants that appreciate morning sun \n thrive. Across the street garden designer Anne Marsh and husband\, Gary Fear\, \n have constructed a garden around their house which dates from 1895. The \n double lot features a rock garden\, ornamental trees and shrubs\, a cottage \n garden and vegetable area. A stream and pond garden behind the house have a \n Japanese flair.\n The Rogerson Clematis Collection Display Garden at Luscher Farm in Lake \n Oswego occupies a two-acre parcel surrounding a circa 1900 farmhouse. Garden \n areas include the Heirloom garden showcasing pre-World War I clematis\, roses \n and cottage garden plants. The Beech Tree’s garden is home to Japanese \n clematis species and cultivars in a bird-friendly setting. The Front Bank \n features many North American native clematis while clematis from Eastern \n Europe inhabit the Balkan Garden. Easy to grow clematis thrive in the \n Beginner’s Garden and 40 favorites inhabit the Founder’s Garden. Clematis \n will be for sale in the greenhouse.\n TICKET PURCHASE\n \n Tickets may be purchased on-line \n at http://www.rogersonclematiscollection.org/ or at Dennis’ Seven Dees \n Nursery (Lake Oswego)\, Garden Fever Nursery (NE Portland)\, Portland Nursery \n (SE Stark St)\, Gardener’s Choice (Tigard)\, Joy Creek Nursery (Scappoose) \n and 13th St Nursery (Salem).\n

DTEND:20130803T203000Z
URL;VALUE=URI:http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/fire/child-safety-seat-clinic-1
DESCRIPTION:The Lake Oswego Fire Department and the Lake Oswego Police Department hold \n free quarterly safety seat clinics open to all citizens. Certified Child \n Passenger Safety Technicians will check for correct installation\, damage\, \n recalls\, and size and age appropriateness. Each seat takes about 30 minutes \n to check.\n \n The next clinic will be on August 3\, 2013\, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.\, at the \n Main Fire Station\, 300 B Avenue.\n \n All events are held at the Main Fire Station at 300 B Avenue\, at the corner \n of Third and B. Call 503-635-0275 during regular business hours for more \n information on the clinics.\n \n Vehicle crashes remain the number one killer of children ages 3-14 in the \n United States.\n Child safety seats\, booster seats and seat belts are the best occupant \n protection. For these children\, the safety seat may not be protecting them \n the way it should.\n \n Oregon Occupant Protection Laws\n \n Child Restraints: Child passengers must be restrained in approved child \n safety seats until they weigh 40 pounds or reach the upper weight limit for \n the car seat in use. Infants must ride rear facing until they reach both one \n year of age AND 20 pounds.\n Booster Seats: Children over 40 pounds OR who have reached the upper weight \n limit of their car seat’s harness system\, must use a booster seat until \n they are 4’9” tall OR age 8.\n Safety Belts: A child taller than 4’9” OR age 8 or older must be properly \n secured with the vehicle’s safety belt. The child is properly secured if \n the lap belt is positioned low across the thighs and the shoulder belt is \n positioned over the collarbone and away from the neck.\n More local safety information:\n \n ACTS Oregon's Child Safety Seat Resource Center\n 8059 SW Cirrus Dr.\n Beaverton\, OR 97008\n 503-643-5620 or 1-800-772-1315\n safety@actsoregon.org [2]\n \n \n [1] http://www.nhtsa.gov/Safety/CPS\n [2] mailto:safety@actsoregon.org

DTEND:20131102T203000Z
URL;VALUE=URI:http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/fire/child-safety-seat-clinic-2
DESCRIPTION:The Lake Oswego Fire Department and the Lake Oswego Police Department hold \n free quarterly safety seat clinics open to all citizens. Certified Child \n Passenger Safety Technicians will check for correct installation\, damage\, \n recalls\, and size and age appropriateness. Each seat takes about 30 minutes \n to check.\n \n The next clinic will be on November 2\, 2013\, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.\, at \n the Main Fire Station\, 300 B Avenue.\n \n All events are held at the Main Fire Station at 300 B Avenue\, at the corner \n of Third and B. Call 503-635-0275 during regular business hours for more \n information on the clinics.\n \n Vehicle crashes remain the number one killer of children ages 3-14 in the \n United States.\n Child safety seats\, booster seats and seat belts are the best occupant \n protection.
