The Pathways Master Plan of 1988 identified
51 roads within and adjacent to Lake Oswego that would benefit
from the addition of a pathway or sidewalk.
In 1990 the citizens of Lake Oswego
voted to pass a bond measure to fund construction of pathways.
Over the next four years, the City constructed an average
of one half mile of pedestrian ways per year using capital
improvement funds.
Of
the 51 roads identified in the plan, to date 18 have had
pathways or sidewalks constructed and made part of a loop
system of pedestrian ways. Development construction has completed
another two miles of sidewalks beyond the original list in
the plan.
The City will continue to construction
pedestrian ways and bike lanes using a multi-year Capital
Improvement Program list recently established.
Individuals and organizations may
also sponsor and dedicate benches along City pathways through
the Pathway Benches program.
