The Fire Prevention
Division is responsible for enforcement of all local, state,
and national safety codes that pertain to life safety. All
commercial and public buildings are subject to fire inspections
as well as multi-family occupancies such as apartments and
care facilities. There are several types of inspection programs
that are over seen by the Fire Prevention Division.
New construction -The Fire

Fire Lanes - Fire access roads need to be a minimum of 20' in width. To prevent parking in the fire access road, sinage on the curb or signs posted along the road are required. If a access road is 26' or more, parking is allowed on one side and if the access road is 32' or more, parking is allowed on both sides. Any access road less then 26' will not allow parking on either side.

If you plan to have an electronic gate installed for your residence, there are two options to provide access to the fire department in case of an emergency. One is a Knox padlock that locks a special switch installed by the installer. The prefered method is the Knox Keyswitch that the installer places next to the keypad for the gate.
