Lock Box Program

All new buildings must provide access to the Fire Department in emergency situations. Lake Oswego Fire Department has selected the Knox company for our lock box program.

Instructions how to obtain a lock box:

  • Obtain a Knox form from the fire department or Click on the links below.
  • Please select the best-suited lock box item from the enclosed form and fill out the form or on the website go to the "Online Purchase" tab and follow instructions.
  • Send the form in per instructions of the company providing the lock box. The lock box company will send you the lock box to the address given.
  • When the lock box arrives, install it within 15 feet of the front door, no higher than 7'.
  • Make a set of master keys for all outside doors, and if needed, inside doors.
  • After installation, call the Fire Prevention Division at 503-635-0275, so they can make arrangements to lock the box with a set of master keys.

The most common lock box is the 3200 series.

If you plan to have an electronic gate installed for your residence, there are two options to provide access to the fire department in case of an emergency. One is a Knox padlock that locks a special switch installed by the installer. The preferred method is the Knox Key switch that the installer places next to the keypad for the gate.
