How does water get to your tap and where does it go after the drain? How do our roads and bridges remain safe and reliable? And who designs and builds new ones? Who plans traffic signal timing and determines speed limits and those markings all over the pavement? Lake Oswego’s Public Works Department works day and night to keep city residents safe and ensures the continuation and improvement of these vital services. Come enjoy the display and learn about Public Works at the Lake Oswego Library, from May 6 to 26.
Second Wednesday Performing Arts Series:
Henrik Bothe
Wednesday, May 9, at 1:00 p.m.
The Lake Oswego Public Library is very pleased to present Henrik Bothe on Wednesday, May 9, at 1:00 p.m. He walks on ladders, spins ropes, juggles without using his hands, manipulates fancy hats, rides a super high unicycle, and escapes from straightjackets! Henrik Bothe performs hilarious and clean physical comedy with gentle humor, physical agility, and entertaining appeal for all ages.
A native of Denmark, Henrik Bothe began entertaining at the early age of three when he drove the family VW bug into the sea. With fortune on his side, he made a quick escape and was soon mesmerized by plate-spinning acts on The Ed Sullivan Show. Now working almost exclusively in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, Bothe has performed in four languages, 50 states, and 22 countries since 1984. When not performing in the Pacific NW, Henrik has appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jay Leno, at Ceasar’s Palace in Vegas, and even did a guest spot on Garison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion… yes a juggler on a radio show.

Lake Oswego Public Library is pleased to announce the republication of In Their Own Words: A Collection of Reminiscences About Early Lake Oswego. In the mid-1970s, Lake Oswego Public Library staff and volunteers began collecting oral histories from Lake Oswego “old-timers”. Armed with little more than a typewriter, staff and volunteers worked diligently to transform these collected oral histories into the book In Their Own Words, which describes in vivid detail life in early Lake Oswego.
In honor of the Lake Oswego Centennial, the library has updated this classic work. The new hardbound edition features photographs from the Lake Oswego Historic Photographs database, a CD of some of the interviews, and an index.
