Exciting Numbers!
We’re bursting with pride about our Library. Did you know we own a total of 154,617 items (at the moment)? During fiscal year 08-09, we answered 58,336 of your questions. We have a very active Children’s Library. A whopping total of 418,492 children’s items were checked out in the past fiscal year-- a 2% increase from the previous year. We offered 361 programs for kids and 13,284 attended--an amazing 11% increase in attendance. Grown-ups also showed up in droves. In fact, 11,458 folks came to our 210 programs for adults--a fabulous 38% increase in attendance. You like us, you really like us! |

We Love Our Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library is a group of hard-working, dedicated volunteers who love our Library (and we love them!). They run a used bookstore, The Booktique, located in Mercantile Medical Plaza. Profits from the store are used to help the Library, allowing us to provide more programs and materials for you than our regular budget would allow for. The Friends recently donated $26,260 to the Library for the following projects:
- Lake Oswego Reads community reading program; includes funding of Whistling Season author Ivan Doig’s presentation
- First Tuesday Music Series
- Third Tuesday Author Talks
- Third Wednesday Performing and Fine Arts Programs
- Cultural Passes (free passes to local attractions that can be checked out by the public)

Art Display
A fabric art exhibit, “Connections,” is currently on display on the Library’s main floor. The art was created by members of Tactile Expressions, a group of 15 Oregon artists who create contemporary fine art using tactile media. You can view the art through the end of October. |
Concert
October’s First Tuesday concert featured Laila and Yohannes Murphy and pianist Daniel Crothers. A professional flutist, Laila has performed with the Oregon Symphony and Portland Opera. Yohannes is an accomplished vocalist and guitar player. The trio performed a selection of Broadway, jazz, and classical songs. The First Tuesday music series is made possible by the Friends of the Library. For information on upcoming programs go to http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/library/AdultCalendar.htm.

Magic Show for Kids
Our Second Saturday Special show for children featured magician Bob Eaton. Not surprisingly, the show was wildly popular. “Children like to believe in magic and so do I,” says Eaton, who has practiced the art of magic for over 35 years and performed around 7,000 shows. The Second Saturday Special series is made possible by the Friends of the Library. For more information on children’s programs go to
