Summer Reading is in Full Swing
It seems like everyone is busy reading this summer! The Library is encouraging everyone to read by offering summer reading clubs for all age groups. At last tally, the children’s Get Creative @ Your Library club had a record-breaking 1,426 members. We’ve never had that many kids signed up after only one month of summer. The teen Read, Raffle, & Win program, which went paperless for the first time ever, has 212 participants. The adult Lazinfest club has 153 members. For more information about our summer reading clubs, go to http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/library/ |
Performing Arts Series
June’s Second Wednesday Performing Arts program featured Flamenco dancer Rafaela Gillette. Currently a member of Flamenco Puro, Gillette has been teaching Flamenco ever since she moved to Portland in 1975. Check out our upcoming Performing Arts Series programs at http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/library/AdultCalendar.htm |

Author Talk
The June Author Talk featured local author Ursula Bacon. A prominent author and speaker, her books include Eternal Strangers and Shanghai Diary: A Young Girl’s Journey from Hitler’s Hate to War-torn China. These titles are based on her life experience escaping from Nazi Germany and living in the “Shanghai ghetto.” Our upcoming Author Talks are listed at http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/library/AdultCalendar.htm |
Children’s Concert
Greta Pederson kicked off our summer series of special guest performances with her “Creating Songs” concert. She’s pictured above post-concert, surrounded by kids who wanted to try out her home-made instruments. Check out http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/library/calendar/ChildrensPrograms.htm for a full listing of our children’s events this summer. Guest performances are made possible by the Friends of the Library |
Children’s Craft
Local artist Jean Ye recently conducted a Chinese-style craft program for children ages 6 and up. The youngsters created darling jumping frogs in a pond with lily pads. Ye, who grew up in China, is astoundingly talented, not only in traditional Chinese arts and crafts, but also in Western style art and graphic arts. Over the years, Ye has provided gorgeous decorations for the children’s room in addition to crafts programs and Chinese New Years events. |
