We’re Number One…Again!
According to the authoritative rating system for American public libraries (HAPLR), Lake Oswego Public Library is the best library in Oregon (in our population category) for the sixth year in a row! Our score of 884 even beat Multnomah County Public Library’s rating of 839. We also remain one of the top ten Libraries in the United States for the sixth time. HAPLR ratings are based on 15 different measurements, including library collections, items checked out by the public, reference questions answered, and programs offered. Our staff is bursting with pride about this impressive achievement. Let’s hear it for Lake Oswego Public Library, we really rock! |

Between the Lions Comes to Lake Oswego Public Library
Lions at the Library? You bet! Just ask the families that poured into the Library on Thursday, July 16, for a PBS Between the Lions extravaganza. The four-hour event attracted a whopping 450 visitors. Attendees were greeted with outdoor festivities, including balloons, lemonade, popcorn, lion face-painting for kids, and harmonium music performed by Wanda Hartfield, all made possible by the Friends of the Library. The fun inside the library included two grand PBS Between the Lions puppet shows on the main floor, singer Aaron Nigel Smith, photos with the lions, a bookmaking craft for children, and a book craft for adults. The Library’s Youth Services Manager Jackie Rose said “We were so lucky that PBS offered us this free program. We were one of two libraries in the entire state. Between the Lions is wildly popular with kids, and it’s also a high-quality educational entertainment.” The show’s three lions have been teaching children to read since the Emmy Award-winning PBS KIDS series began in 2000. Library Director Bill Baars and several other Library staff (and their kids) had fun representing the Library at the Fourth of July parade. This was also a great chance to publicize our summer reading programs for all ages. Many enthusiastic parade onlookers communicated their love for the Library as the group passed by. |
