Families with babies from birth through eighteen months are invited to a series of musical laptimes presented by early childhood music specialist Anne Clark.  A combination of gentle rhymes, bounces, and movements, musical laptimes are especially designed to create bonding between caregivers and babies.  Clark has worked in early childhood music for over 30 years.  She developed a music-based curriculum for the Gingerbread House Preschool, which she established and directed for 18 years.  Clark has offered music and movement classes using the Kindermusik curriculum since 1992.  Very young children who participate in her classes develop motor, cognitive, verbal, social, emotional, and creative abilities in addition to musical skills.  Clark also provides the classes to at-risk children through a nonprofit corporation, Growing with Music.  In addition to her children’s music programs, Clark is also known for her work as a children’s choir director, piano teacher, and church organist.  She has a degree in music education and has done additional study in seminars throughout the U.S. and in Salzburg, Austria.  Clark’s Musical Laptime series is made possible by the Friends of the Library.

Mother Goose on the Loose with Penny's Puppet Products

Saturday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m.

Mother Goose is sad!  She thinks nobody remembers her nursery rhymes anymore so she hides away.  The only way to get her back is to sing, play, and re-enact Mother Goose rhymes.  A lively cast of characters are up to the task in this original show.  Penny’s Puppet Productions founder Penny Walter states, “I believe imagination is not only for children but is something we should all strive to keep and to honor, for it is through imagination that growth, hope, and inventions are birthed…Children can become so involved with the interaction of the puppets that they do not realize they are learning…”  Walter has a Masters Degree in early childhood education.  She was a teacher in Portland area schools for three years before following her dream of becoming a full-time puppeteer and storyteller.  “Through the centuries, puppets have entertained…Today the power of puppetry is as popular as ever in its use as an educational tool.”   Walter was the resident puppeteer at the Portland Children’s Museum for four years.  She’s performed in Portland Public Schools, Head Start programs, libraries, and festivals.  She teaches puppetry classes for teachers, professionals, and families.  Walter’s show is made possible by the Friends of the Library and is offered in honor of the Lake Oswego Centennial Celebration’s “Remember the Past” theme.

Jumper the Pony with Fantasy Puppet Theatre

Jumper the Pony with Oregon Fanasy Puppet Theatre

Saturday, February 13, at 11:00 a.m.

This rootin’ tootin’ non-shootin’ “Wild West” show stars Cowgirl Jane, her friend Sherriff Mitchem, and of course, Jumper the Pony.  All three are on a quest to capture the bandits who robbed the town bank.  Favorite Western songs, such as “Buffalo Gals, and “Home on the Range,” are part of the fun, along with a hand-painted Old West town backdrop and amazing costumes created with attention to detail, including a miniature horse saddle made out of real leather.  .  Puppeteer Celeste Rose graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in drama.  She’s been performing with marionettes for over 30 years.  A founder of the Rose Children’s Theatre in Eugene, she has toured far and wide, presenting her shows to delighted audiences.  She creates her own stages, backdrops, props, and handmade marionettes.  Rose loves to perform for large audiences of parents and children, and her shows are always crowd pleasers.  This program is made possible by the Friends of the Library and is presented in honor of the Lake Oswego Centennial Celebration’s “Remember the Past” theme and as a tie-in to Lake Oswego Reads.

Ted E. Bears Travels with Penny's Puppet Productions

Bear goes on a picnic with his best friend Robin.  In the excitement, he gets forgotten in the park and has to make his way back home.  He meets some interesting characters along his musical and fun-filled journey.
