Library is Heart of Our Community

Read the Article

Where else in our society can all types of folks relax, attend interesting events, use computers and databases for free, take home a book, CD, or DVD for “virtually no cost?”  What place is “owned” by everyone in the community?  According to the Planning Commissioners Journal Number 75 Summer 2009, public libraries are “anchors for our cities” and “bring value to our communities.”  To read this fascinating article, open the pdf file above.

Ice Cream Truck

Free Ice Cream at Library

This past Tuesday, thanks to Umpqua Bank in Lake Oswego, everyone was treated to free ice cream right outside the Library’s front door.  Staffed by Umpqua Bank Branch Manager Bill Jordan, the colorful little truck and its contents were a great hit, as pictured above.  By the way, LO Umpqua Bank staff have helped the Library in other ways too.  Over the past three years, Bill Jordan and staff have volunteered to provide several days’ worth of amazing cleaning blitzes in the children’s room.  Currently, Jordan and son are summer recycling volunteers.  Thank you Umpqua Bank!

Puppet show

Children’s Puppet Show

The summer series of special guest performances was capped off by a lively puppet show performed by Steven Engelfried, entitled “The Rooster and the Magic Crayon” as pictured above.  The fall series of children’s programs begins in September.  For more information go to http://www.ci.oswego.or.us/library/calendar/ChildrensPrograms.htm
