First Tuesday Music: Ronnie Robins Trio

Tuesday, December 5, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Perennial First Tuesday performer Ronnie Robins returns to LOPL with a new group this year: The Ronnie Robins Trio. This free concert will be held Tuesday, December 5, 7:00-8:30pm.

Ronnie, a gifted guitarist who grew up in New York City, has lived in the Portland area for almost 40 years. He has developed an entertaining, distinctive musical style built on Brazilian rhythms and motifs. Often a solo or duo performer, this year he brings his new trio to First Tuesday.

Ronnie describes his life and career this way on his website: "I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised on Long Island. It was there at age 14 that I began my obsession with playing the guitar. The guitar and music became my oasis in what one might describe as a 'tumultuous adolescence.' In the summer of 1978 I moved to Portland, Oregon. I worked odd jobs, all the time honing my guitar skills, singing, writing, and studying music formally at different colleges and universities. I played in a rock band called The Van Goghs, as well as in two different jazz big bands. It was in the late 1980s that I fell deeply in love with Brazilian music, bought a classical (nylon string) guitar, and dove in headfirst. In the early ‘90s I formed Bossamba, a Brazilian-influenced group playing and recording mainly my own compositions. Brazilian music has been the foundation and inspiration for much of my own music to this day."

This concert, part of the library's First Tuesday Music Series, is sponsored by the Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library. Admission is free. The library is at 706 Fourth Street, Lake Oswego, OR 97034. For more information, contact Chris Myers, 503-534-5667 /
