Information and Assistance:
|
The Library staff will provide help in locating materials and answering your questions. You may contact the staff by phone, e-mail, or via the Web site. |
Funding:
The Lake Oswego Public Library is a city library and a member of the Library Information Network of Clackamas County (LINCC). LINCC is a consortium of libraries working together to provide high quality services for the residents of Clackamas County. Funding for the library comes from the City General Fund,
and the Clackamas County Library Levy. |
Function:
The primary role of the library is to provide access for the public to popular
and contemporary materials and reference materials and resources. The library’s secondary role is to encourage children to develop an interest in learning, and to promote independent learning for people of all ages. |
Library History:
In 1930 the City of Lake Oswego agreed to fund the operation of two volunteer collections of materials which had been housed at the City Hall. Lucia Bliss of the Women’s Club Library, became the first city librarian. The current library building was constructed in 1983 and is located at 706 4th Street. For more Lake Oswego history, click here. |
The Collection:
The library collection consists of more than 239,000 volumes, and contains materials in different formats, including printed and audiovisual materials. Circulating materials are loaned without charge except for rental books, videos and DVDs. Items available for checkout include a TV/VCR combination, an overhead projector, projection screens, and Markit engravers. For item loan periods click here. The library has
in-house word processing computers, call 503.675.2540 to make a reservation. The library also has microform reader/printers for public use as well as a CD player (no cassette players). |
Reservations on Library Items (Placing Holds)
& Interlibrary Loan Requests:
If the library does not own an item, or the item is checked out, but it is available
from another library in our system (LINCC), a hold may be placed on the item and the courier will deliver it to us, for you to pick up. If no library in Clackamas County owns the item, reference staff will search the Multnomah County Library catalog
and OCLC/WorldCat, a national database, to find a lending institution and initiate an interlibrary loan request for you. |
Library Programs:
The library presents a variety of programs for all ages, throughout the year, to meet the recreational, cultural, and information interests of the community. Current regular programming includes summer reading clubs for children, teens, and adults, preschool storytimes, craft programs for children and teens, a Teen Advisory Board, college
and career programs, Teen Read Week, and special guest performances for children, and teens. Programs of interest for adults include computer instruction, music concerts, and programs covering topics such as book clubs, snow shoeing,
and gardening. Please refer to seasonal calendars, flyers, and press release for specific information, or call 503.697.6580 for youth program information,
or 503.675.2540 for more details on programs for adults.
