Local architect Richard Sundeleaf designed this house for Dudley and Alma Allen.  Allen helped draw up a City ordinance on dog control in 1958 during his city council service.  This house is an excellent example of the Sundeleaf design, which during this period of his career often resembled English vernacular building in massing and form.  Here the architect combined wide, wood shingles with uncoursed stone landing the house a rustic quality.  The use of light colored mortar contrasts strongly with the stone that covers much of the first level of the house.  The Allen House is quite prominent in the neighborhood because of its size and location on a rise above the street.  It is significant as a fine example of the English Cottage style, as well as for its contribution to the historic character of the neighborhood.
