Celebrate Arbor Week 2018 - Recycled Pots and Seed Starter Necklaces
RECYCLED POTS AND SEED STARTER NECKLACES
Thursday, April 5, 4-5 p.m. at Lake Oswego Public Library, 706 4th Street
It is time to sow the seeds for a beautiful flower or vegetable garden. You can start indoors with these seed pots made from recycled newspaper. Dennis' 7 Dees Garden Center will provide you with everything you need, as well as instruction, to get your garden off on the right foot. Recommended for grades 6-8.
PRESCHOOL NATURE WALK: CELEBRATE HEALTHY TREES
Friday, April 6, 10-10:45 a.m. at Springbrook Park (entrance at Uplands Elementary School, 2055 Wembley Park Road)
Join us in Springbrook Park, where you can see trees all around. Every living tree has at least one trunk, many roots, and will be gowning new spring leaves. How do each of these help the tree to be healthy? We will make our own tree to answer this question. Then play healthy tree bingo on our walk through the park. Discovery buckets and exploration tools will be provided. Geared to ages 2-6, but all are welcome.
SEED THE WORLD AROUND YOU
Saturday, April 7, 1-2 p.m. at Lake Oswego Public Library, 706 4th Street
In the tradition of "guerrilla gardening" we'll teach you to make seed balls that you can plant in your garden or scatter in the wild. All supplies will be provided, in the form of wildflower seeds, dirt and water. Plan on getting your hands dirty for this project and taking home a garden waiting to bloom. Recommended for grades K-5.
FORESTRY AT THE FARMERS' MARKET
Saturday, May 19, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Millennium Plaza Park, 200 First Street
Join us to celebrate forestry at the Farmers' Market on opening day! Activities include Urban & Community Forestry booths and activities for children and adults. Spin the prize wheel, do a craft, watch a tree pruning demonstration, receive a free tree seedling, and learn about stewardship opportunities for your neighborhood. Arbor Day Art Contest winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded.
The Market boasts an average of over 80 vendors each week. As usual, you can also delight in finding a wide variety of superior produce, meats, nuts, cheeses, artisan breads, jams, jellies, baked goods, fresh seafood, nursery items, hot foods, and live music from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.— there is something for everyone!
