LOCK YOUR MEDS®
According to the National Family Partnership, a national organization fighting for Drug Free Youth, “70% of the people 12 or older who abuse prescription drugs get them from friends and family.” Lines for Life (formerly Oregon Partnership) is an Oregon based non-profit organization that is dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide (http://www.linesforlife.org/). They have been supporting a National Family Partnership program called, “Lock Your Meds®”. This program works to educate adults that they are unintentionally providing prescription medications, especially to children, and gives them tools with which to keep those medications away from all but the patient they were prescribed for. You can learn more about this program, which includes posters, educational materials, interactive games and slide show presentations, by visiting http://www.lockyourmeds.org/.
