The City of Lake Oswego has a council-manager form of government. The mayor and six councilors are elected at-large and serve four-year terms. The current City Council will serve from January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2016.

Candidates for the position of Mayor and three City Councilor positions will appear on the ballot for the November 8, 2016 General Election. The filing period for interested candidates begins on June 1, 2016, and concludes at 5 p.m. on August 30, 2016.
The 2016 City Council Candidate Guide is available below. The guide provides general information about elections, qualifications for candidacy, and directions for filing for elective office. Printed copies of the guide and required forms are available in the City Manager's Office on the third floor in City Hall.
The Oregon Secretary of State Elections Division publishes candidate manuals, filing forms, information on State election law, and campaign finance.
City elections are governed by the laws and regulations of the City of Lake Oswego, Clackamas County, and the State of Oregon. Lake Oswego Charter and Code pertaining to elections can be found on the City's website.
The City of Lake Oswego is located in three counties; Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington. Each candidate is responsible for their own voters' pamphlet submissions, and candidates who wish to appear in all three county voters' guides must contact each county.
