The Wastewater Department operates and maintains 206 miles of collection system with 13 major pump stations and 14 single-family pump stations. All of these assets eventually flow into the Tryon Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant operated by the City of Portland on Foothills Road. The Wastewater Department also provides information about rodent control, wastewater odor complaints, lateral service connection verification, response to sewer back-ups and overflows, and missing manhole covers.

To help control rats and rodents at your home, cover your garbage cans with a tight metal cover. If a can has holes in it, replace it with a new one. Store soap powder, dog food, rabbit food, nuts, and food in rodent-proof containers or in places inaccessible to rodents. Keep your yard clear of dog bones, old vegetables, fallen fruit, etc. Garbage and brush piles attract rodents.

Each home and business in Lake Oswego has a wastewater lateral. It is the smaller (3 or 4 inch) pipe that collects the water and waste from your sinks, showers, toilet, tubs, and any other drains that carry the wastes from the home to the larger (8 to 36 inch) City of Lake Oswego Wastewater Collection System.

If you have a sewer odor in your home, first look for the source in the bathrooms and kitchen. Pour a gallon of water down the shower drains and sinks that are not used often. If this does not solve the problem, call the City's Wastewater Department at (503) 635-0280.
