Landmark Designation List

This is a carefully selected list of historic properties taken from the Cultural Resources Inventory. These historic properties are considered the best examples of Lake Oswego’s past. The Landmark List currently includes 72 properties located throughout the City.  Most of these landmarks were placed on the list in 1989 through a public hearing process. Some properties were placed more recently by mutual agreement between the property owners and the City. These properties are included on the Landmark List because research found that they are historically significant in terms of their architecture or history, contributing to the City’s Historic Context.

Having your property on the Landmark List does not prohibit remodeling or making additions to the historic home. Designation only governs the exterior of the structure and is intended to assure that property owners make alterations that are consistent with the building’s historic character. Reviewing the exterior alteration plans for a home or building that is on the Landmark Designation List generally requires review before the Development Review Commission which is one more step than what is needed for a typical home remodel.

Appendix A includes the list of properties and the field form, graphic page, and statement of significance for each property. The City Attorney's Office is responsible for providing an abbreviated listing, which is included in the Development Ordinance. This list is provided by the Planning Department and includes all of the properties originally listed. Documentation for each property may be obtained from the Planning Department.
