“We Love Lake Oswego: Planning for People, Places and Prosperity” Invites You to the Connected Community Bike Ride on August 11

LAKE OSWEGO – Join Lake Oswego residents on the Connected Community Bike Ride for the kick off of the 100 Mile Challenge and to honor the newly marked bike route connecting downtown to Waluga Park.

When:   Saturday, August 11, from 9:45 a.m. to noon
9:45 - 10:00 a.m. – Gather at Lower Millennium Park
10:00 a.m. – Start riding

Where:  Around Lake Oswego. Choose a 7.4 mile, flat, out and back ride between downtown and Lake Grove, or a 10.5 mile loop with some hills.

Support: There will be snacks and water along the way provided by Zupan’s and Palisades (Lamb’s) Market and a Bike Gallery mechanic to provide assistance, if needed.

The first annual 100 Mile Challenge, launched by the City of Lake Oswego Sustainability Advisory Board, is a simple, fun way to help people make active transportation choices instead of driving. The Challenge is an opportunity for all of us to rethink how we get around, especially trips within two miles of home. Just leave your car at home; walk, bike, bus, or use another car-free option to get there; log your trips; and qualify for incentives.

At the end of 2012, everyone who has logged at least 100 miles since July will be eligible to win a new Trek Allant bike from the Bike Gallery. In addition, there will be prizes at the end of each month - simply travel and log 100 miles in a month and you are entered to win! Learn more and sign up at www.ci.oswego.or.us/sustainability/100-mile-challenge

The Connected Community Bike ride will take advantage of a new bike route from Millennium Plaza Park in downtown Lake Oswego to Waluga Park in Lake Grove. This route, created by the Transportation Advisory Board, makes it easy and safe for people to get from one important location to another.

Riders are limited. So, please register with Laura Weigel at lweigel@ci.oswego.or.us or 503-675-3730, by Thursday, August 9. Please visit http://welovelakeoswego.com/ for more details.
