Project Purpose and Scope
Improvements on Second Street between A & B Avenues are identified as Project C in the East End Redevelopment Plan. The street will be reconstructed to include improved stormwater catch basins and planters, wider sidewalks with ADA accessible ramps, decorative streetlights and furniture, landscaping and street trees, a corner improvement at Second Street and B Avenue, and reconstruction of the roadway.
These upgrades will encourage and support new development by improving pedestrian and vehicle circulation, parking, and the aesthetic character of the street; as well as provide opportunities for social interaction.
February 23 Information Meeting
Approximately 15 people, including business owners, property owners and residents in the area, attended the City’s information meeting. Many of their comments related to the need to minimize construction impacts to businesses. Attendees also suggested additional brick accents, an additional public plaza, and business signs and/or art at the corner of A Avenue to draw customers up Second Street. Staff is reviewing the feasibility of integrating art opportunities and other low-cost suggestions into a revised plan.
