Members Present: Annie Choo, River Smith, Renee Kozlowski, Olivia Gaussoin, Michael Murray(Late: Sebastian Marin-Quiros, Natalie Goldberg, Kyle Langford), Councilor Joe Buck Members Excused/Absent Brooke Baker,Jensen Kaelin Staff: Jenny Slepian, Sustainability and Management Analyst; Rusty Palmeri, LOPD Public: None Announcements from Board and Staff The group reviewed the bylaws and the decided to add "religion"to non-discrimination clause in Appointments section. Approval of Minutes The Council unanimously approved the August 2, 2017 meeting minutes. Public Comment None Regular Business A. Council Update Councilor Buck updated the Youth Council on last night's City Council meeting. Last night the Council discussed Botticelli-currently redoing the intersection with Fosberg.The Comp Plan and TSP called for a bike lane to be added when the street was re-striped, but neighbors wanted parking instead.Joe asked the youth what they would do. River said more research should be done.Joe asked if more people would use it if there was a bike lane. Rusty said there are a lot of accidents there and not too many people park there. City Council decided to keep the parking and install sharrows in the lane of traffic. The City is re-turfing Hazelia Field this fall.The Woodmont Park Master Plan was approved. B. LOSpeaks Planning The Council primarily discussed marketing LO Speaks.Joe suggested giving out a ticket for LO Speaks with every LO Reads book handed out. Annie offered to create a logo and design the tickets. River offered to approach Suzanne Bonamicci about possibly speaking at the event.The Council reviewed their task list for the fall. C. NLC Conference The National League of Cities Conference is in March 2018, and the Council needs to start thinking about who is going and how to pay for it.The estimate is about$2000/student, and we will need to fundraise to cover these costs.Joe discussed what happens at the conference and the general schedule. D. Board Positions The Councilors selected their 2017-2018 Board Positions: Chair-Annie Choo Vice Chairs-Seba Marin-Quiros, Brooke Baker Treasurer- Kyle Secretaries- River Smith, Natalie Goldberg LO Speaks Program Coordinator- Renee Kozlowski Development Director- Michael Murray Publicities-Olivia Gaussoin,Jensen Kaelin E. 2018 New Ideas The Council discussed new ideas for 2018. Kyle is going to spearhead the Clackamas youth council summit and work with the Happy Valley and West Linn youth councils. Annie will take over mental health awareness day and work with Rusty and LOPD on organizing that in the spring. River, Kyle, and Renee will work with YAC on putting a Youth Town Hall together. Prior to adjourning the meeting, Seba agreed to talk to Cyndie about LO Speaks ASAP. The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 pm.
