Should be awesome, you should all be there! We are looking at April 17 for the Youth Town Hall. Michael suggested the school board be invited in a listening only capacity.Jensen is going to reach out to potential moderators from LOJ. Recruitment opens on April 1 and closes on May 15. We need rising freshmen and sophomores to apply. Renee and Natalie volunteered to go to the junior high schools. We will try to do interviews in May. Renee recapped the Youth Summit in Salem. Different youth councils talked about how they were involved in various efforts. Renee said she would really like to have the Youth Council involved in drug take back-opioid abuse is much worse with youth than pot or alcohol. Having the City run it doesn't incentivize youth and their parents, so it would be helpful to have the YLC sponsor it. Look at having a lottery or a raffle at the event to entice more people to show up. Approval of Minutes The January and February minutes were approved. Public Comment None Regular Business A. Council Update No Council Update. B. 2018 Work Session The Councilors discussed some possible ideas for this year: • Mental Health Football Games: have one at each high school. Look at Portland Gear making green shirts for the event.Jensen will talk with Brigham Baker about which games would work. Shirt sale donations would go to a youth mental health organization. • Yes to LO Speaks again next year! • Start a Kids Teach program- kids who have something to teach to lead a class or workshop, mostly related to hobbies and activities. • College Application Workshop- have a college admissions consultant lead a free workshop for LO youth on the college application process. The Councilors asked for CPR training, as well as the opportunity to bring a Firefighter Paramedic into a meeting for"on the job" stories. The meeting was adjourned at 6:37 pm.
