Boones Ferry Road Refinement Plan
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of the refinement plan? The Boones Ferry Road Refinement Plan is intended to
provide greater certainty to the community about the proposed improvements to Boones Ferry Road.
Specifically, the project is addressing the proposed roadway alignment and the amount of right-of-way
that will be needed for construction of the improvements. The project is also addressing strategies for
storm water management(green streets) and a series of suggested operational refinements
recommended in 2009.
What is the Lake Grove Village Center Plan? The Lake Grove Village Center Plan is land use and
transportation plan that was adopted by the City Council in 2008 after extensive public involvement and
public hearings. The plan envisions the Lake Grove Village Center as an area with a mix of commercial
and residential uses that safely accommodates pedestrians and bicyclists as well as automobiles. The
Village Center plan includes a series of specific policies and actions for Boones Ferry Road.
What are the road improvements that are included in the Lake Grove Village Center Plan? The
adopted Lake Grove Village Center Plan calls for the following improvements: two 11-foot travel lanes
in each direction, five-foot bike lanes, nine-foot sidewalks, a ten-foot wide landscaped center median
that collects stormwater, U-turns at intersections, three new signalized intersections, and additional
pedestrian crossings.
When will the improvements be built? Boones Ferry Road improvements are listed in the City's capital
improvement plan as an unfunded project. The fact that a funding source has not been identified
means that a timeframe for improvements has not yet been established.
How will the improvements be paid for? Funding for construction has not yet been identified. In July,
the City intends to begin a follow-up project to develop a funding strategy for Lake Grove Village Center
improvements including improvements to Boones Ferry Road. Options to be considered and evaluated
include regional flexible funds, local improvement districts, an urban renewal district, City stormwater
and road funds, and other sources or combinations of funding sources. The strategy is intended to be
completed before the City Council begins its goal setting process for 2012.
What input is needed from property owners and citizens? Please provide your ideas and thoughts to
the Project Advisory Committee members at the open house. The Committee is interested in hearing
about alignment and right-of-way concerns, green street ideas, ideas regarding pedestrian
improvements, and other ideas or concerns.
