Subject: Please forward to planning commissioners - short term rental issue
Dear Planning Commissioners,
Thank you for continuing to work on the task of putting together recommendations for the City Council
regarding short term rentals. I plan on attending the April 22nd meeting and speaking briefly, but I wanted to
give you my thoughts in advance as well.
It appears that you are leaning towards recommending that ADU's not be permitted for short term rentals. Under
ADU description, it states, 'an ADU is a small housing unit constructed on single family lot.' I have an original
cottage, from 1892, on my property and since we purchased the property in 2010, I have always considered
it part of our home, not an accessory dwelling. Our garage is detached; I consider that part of my home. The
cottage has been used for short term rentals (prior to the last few years) as well as for family and friends on a
fairly consistent split. I would not rent it out on a long term basis, due to the fact that we use it ourselves.
I am in favor of a 'primary residence' regulation and that should include cottages already on property.
The additional income that short term rentals generates for us has allowed us to offset property taxes and
college tuition costs. It has allowed us to meet some pretty amazing people as well.
Kind regards,
Shelly Kintzinger
