Navigating the maze of health and community ser- vice offerings can be overwhelming, that’s why the FCC designated 2-1-1 as the national dialing code for commu- nity information. 211info, connects the people of Oregon and Southwest Washington with the community resources they need. Simply call 2-1-1 to get information or referral for family and individual needs, financial and foreclosure assistance, housing and shelter, healthcare, food, government pro- grams, mental health, education, and employment. In normal times and in disasters, this number provides information to deal with a personal crisis, leaving 9-1-1 for life-threatening situations. Clackamas County is initiating a review and update of their Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan (NHMP). Every five years, Federal guidelines require that the NHMP be updated, submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for approval, and adopted locally. Clackamas County adopted their NHMP in 2002 and updated it in 2007. The current County plan expires in October 2012. The City of Lake Oswego’s NHMP was adopted by City Council in July 2004. On March 23, 2010, an update, approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), was adopted by Council. This NHMP provides the City with a set of goals, action items, and resources designed to reduce risk from future natural disaster events. Jurisdictions with FEMA approved mitigation plans are eligible to apply for federal grant funding to implement identified mitigation items. To include a current addendum in the Clackamas County NHMP and achieve a consistent timeline with the County and other cities in the County, the City will also review and update its NHMP. Opportunities for public input will be sought in the coming months. Lake Oswego’s very own K9 Officers Charger and Kai have taken the Canines for Clean Water Pledge. Has your canine?
