Cooking with Surja! Surja brings 10 years of teaching experience to the ACC kitchen on Saturday, February 22 Surja will demonstrate Teppanyaki grill cooking, which was developed during the time he lived in Japan Because of this, he is able to offer unique insights and Teppanyaki techniques to cook a fine beef cut. The class includes the main dish prepared with top sirloin steak, shrimp, fried rice, bean sprouts and mushrooms, along with sauce sampler, miso soup, salad and hot tea Students will aid in the prep work of chopping, cleaning and practice using chopsticks Only eight spaces are available for this special, intimate dining and learning experience Surja is well-versed in French, Italian, Japanese, Southeast Asian, and American cuisine His professional background encompasses both restaurant ownership and management He also holds an MBA in International Business from the University of Southern California and has years of experience in business management and employee training Locally, he is a favorite on KOIN local news and with Lake Oswego Food Columnist Barb Randall Meditation for Health and Happiness Surja has practice meditation for over 13 years and is especially interested in how meditation promotes neuroplasticity and healing A graduate of the Chaplaincy Program at the Sati Center for Buddhist Studies in California, Mr Tjahaja has served as a volunteer chaplain at Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in San Francisco He has taught weekly meditation classes in the Portland area for the past three years The class at the ACC will teach how to actively develop a healthy mind and body Meditation can remove stress, improve health and increase happiness Classes will be ideal for all health conditions, can assist with pain management and are open to all abilities For registration information for either class, please see the Cultural Section of the newsletter on page 4.
