Honor Their Service A Veterans Day Tribute When Francis Scott Key wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner” almost 200 years ago, he called America “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Those words are as true today as they were then. Throughout our Nation’s history, American soldiers (Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, and Coastguard) have bravely answered the call to defend our freedom. Join us to honor those who have served our country and preserved our many freedoms. The program includes inspirational speakers, patriotic entertainment and a Presentation of Colors from the Lake Oswego Police Honor Guard. No registration required. ACC Room: Oak/Acorn 2p Tu 11/11 Horse Drawn Carriage Rides Experience the thrill of an old fashioned horse-drawn carriage on Saturday, December 6 and 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. Slow down and savor the sights and sounds of the holiday season with a memorable carriage ride through Lake Oswego’s First Addition and downtown Lake Oswego. The ACC is pleased to announce that it will be the first in Oregon to offer Stress- Busting Program for Family Caregivers (SBP), an evidence-based program proven to improve the quality of life of family caregivers caring for a loved one with a primary diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia, to help them manage stress and cope better with their lives. The program is recognized by the Administration on Aging, an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, as meeting the highest level criteria for an evidence-based program and by the VA as an evidence-supported program. Supported by a grant from the State of Oregon through Clackamas County Social Services, the focus is on education, support, problem-solving, and stress management. It takes a holistic approach addressing the emotional, physical, spiritual and cognitive needs of caregivers. For nine weeks, a master trainer/facilitator leads small groups of four to eight participants for 90 minutes per week. Groups meet Thursdays, January 15 to March 12, from 1:30-3 p.m., and Tuesdays, February 10 to April 7, from 6:30-8 p.m. The program is free but registration is required. For additional information, contact Dana Tassos at 503-635-3758.
