The Library Advisory Board meeting was called to order by Chair Nancy Niland at 7:00 p.m. on
August 12, 2015.
1. Call to Order and Roll Call
2. Introductions
Niland introduced Joanne Haynes from the 50+ Advisory Board who is their liaison to the LAB.
3. Approval of Minutes
Marian Meneghin made a motion, seconded by David Short, to approve the minutes of the
June 10, 2015 meeting and the July 8, 2015 meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
4. Public Comment
None
5. Director's Report-Bill Baars
• Baars introduced Melissa Kelly the new Circulation Manager. Kelly comes from Canby Public Library
where she was the Library Director. Kelly shared some of her background and said how excited she is to
be at Lake Oswego. Canby Library is planning a new Library and Kelly gained experience from their
project that she hopes to use as the project manager for the Circulation/Work Room remodel at Lake
Oswego.
• Summer Reading programs continue and record numbers of adult, teens and children are participating this
year. A Summer Reading Celebration Party is being planned by the Youth Services Department and will
be held on August 26 at Rossman Park. There will be a famous tightrope artist and juggler, a balloon
twister, face painting and a caricature artist. The Friends will also be there with an offering of snacks. A
large crowd is expected.
• Storage space for both the Library and the Booktique has been made available at Palisades School,
replacing the storage lost from the sale of the WEB. Boxes of books will be transferred from the WEB to
the school.
6. Chair's Report-Nancy Niland
• Niland thanked Maria Meneghin for her service as LAB chair.
• Niland is the LAB liaison to the Sustainability Advisory Board and reported that there will not be an
August meeting. She is liaison to the 50+Advisory Board and reported that the ACC will begin rolling out
an Aging Mastery Program in September. They also will not have a meeting in August.
• The Farmer's Market on August 22 will be the last time this year that the Library will have a booth. Thank
you to Halligan for volunteering to work at the booth.

7. Friends of the Library Report-Nancy Niland
• The Friends had a presence at the Knights of Veritas event held on July 31. The temperature was so hot
that the event was moved from Rossman Park to the Library. The Friends were there with refreshments.
• The Booktique is now on Yelp.
• The Booktique sales are averaging approximately $10,000 each month.
• As part of a Youth Services program, a stuffed toy dragon named Lena will be placed in various favorite
places to read throughout the community. If you find her you can let the Library know and be entered in a
drawing for a prize at the end of summer. Lena will be visiting the Booktique sometime this summer.
8. Council Update
• Meneghin said that although the City Council will not have any regular meetings in August they do have a
Special Meeting scheduled on Friday, August 14, regarding the sale of the WEB.

• None.
