4. Director's Report-Bill Baars
a) Update on Circulation Department business
Melissa Kelly has been hired as the new Circulation Manager. She is the Canby Library Director and
she starts at Lake Oswego on July 27. As Kelly will be the project manager of the workroom remodel,
the project has been delayed until her arrival.
• Yakima Products has purchased the West End Building and the City will need to vacate the building. The
Parks and Recreation Department is moving to Palisades School. There will not be room for the Library or
Booktique storage at the school. Options are being considered for the 1,500 sf of Library storage currently
at the WEB.
• Halligan noticed surveys posted at the Library last week. Baars explained that these surveys were taken
from a seminar staff attended last year on the future of libraries. The surveys ask about what the current
role of the Library is in the community, and what the future role of the Library should be. The survey
posters were filled in by the Library staff and then the surveys were offered to patrons to fill in. It has been
interesting that the results from the staff are different from that of the patrons. Baars will share the results
at a future staff meeting and with the LAB.

6. Friends Report-Nancy Niland
• The Friends Board held a special meeting on July 2 to discuss the $5,000 grant that they received from the
City which was deducted from the Library budget. Some Board members were concerned that money was
taken from the Library budget. After a discussion, it was decided that the Friends would add $5,000 to the
amount of money they give to the Library for grants in September. Usually grants are given twice a year
but this year they will be given in September for a full year. This is a trial and hopefully will make it easier
for both the Friends bookkeeping and the Library budgeting.
• The sale of the WEB was discussed and it was hoped that the City will find suitable storage somewhere
else for the Friends.
• The Friends would like to reach out to the new City Councilors so they can familiarize themselves with the
Friends and their concerns for the Library.
7. Council Update-Skip O'Neill
• The sales agreement with Yakima Products has been signed and this will put about 1 V2 million dollars back
into the general budget per year.
• They have a sales agreement with Mary Jo Avery for the property next to the WEB and the proceeds will
likely be used for Parks and Rec as this is where the funds came from to purchase the property.
• The City is a supporter of wind power.
• Councilor Bowerman has resigned effective August 31. There is a procedure in place for selecting a new
replacement.
• The City Council will not meet in August.
8. New Business
None
9. Adjournment

Respectfully submitted
