Approved Minutes - 2015-06-10 CITY OF LAKE OSWEGO June 10, 2015 Library Advisory Board Library Present: Maria Meneghin, Fred Baldwin, Jessie Halligan,Nancy Niland, Cliff Perigo, David Short, Radhika Subrahmanyan Staff Present: Bill Baars, Bev Ross Absent: Alan Laird The Library Advisory Board meeting was called to order by Chair Maria Meneghin at 7:00 p.m. on June 10, 2015. 1. Call to Order and Roll Call 2. Public Comment None 3. Acceptance of Minutes a) April 8, 2015 Cliff Perigo made a motion, seconded by Fred Baldwin,to approve the minutes of the April 8, 2015 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. b) May 13, 2015 Dave Short made a motion, seconded by Fred Baldwin, to approve the minutes of the May 13, 2015 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. 4. Director's Report-Bill Baars a) Workroom remodel update The architects have compiled data which included flow study of traffic during the day in the workroom. They will meet with the staff and determine tasks and the work flow after a new Circulation Manager is in place. The floor repair will be done at the same time as the Circulation/Workroom remodel. Plans have not yet been made on how to continue operating while this work is being done. b) Circulation manager search update Interviews were conducted last week and additional interviews will be done tomorrow and next week. From those interviews, selections will be made for second interviews. • Summer Reading programs have started and already 550 children have signed up. • Next Monday the Library will host 20 Rotarians for lunch. Baars will take this opportunity to give these folks a tour of the Library and a demonstration of the 3D printer. Baars will share with them a DVD created by the Preservation Society, "Reel Lake Oswego,"which is part of the Library's mission to preserve and make available local history. • For the first time, the Library will have a table set up at the Festival of the Arts. 5. Chair's Report-Maria Meneghin a) Letter of support request Meneghin received a letter from the FAN/Forest Hills Neighborhood Association regarding the new Stafford Grove Park. They are asking the LAB to send a letter of support to the City for a Neighborhood Grant. After a discussion, not wanting to set a precedent, the LAB decided to respectfully decline the request. 6. Friends Report-Nancy Niland • Current membership is 570. 1 CITY OF LAKE OSWEGO June 10, 2015 Library Advisory Board Library • The Investment &Banking Committee decided to keep funds in the Bank of Oswego because they were protected by FDIC. Baldwin said not all CDs are covered by FDIC and that the Friends should investigate if all of their funds are protected. • With funds donated in memory of Pat Brock, a longtime volunteer, new display cases were built and installed at the Booktique that house all of the nine LO Reads books. • At the Library Volunteer Luncheon President Huber announced the creation of a Maxine Collins Award in honor of Maxine who has volunteered for the Friends since the 1960's. The first recipient was Beverly Ross. • Terry Huber announced that she is stepping down as president when her term expires in September 2015. It was also announced that Rick Slaven has resigned as secretary. Sustainability Advisory Board meeting update Niland attended the May 18 meeting. The meeting centered on an update on the Operations project and an update on the great savings the City has realized as it transitions to LED streetlights. The LO Commute Challenge will be held in September. To involve local businesses, a passport will be created for this event and the Library will possibly be a stop. Niland suggested that the Library have books on display regarding sustainable travel during this month. 50+Advisory Board meeting update Niland attended the May 28 meeting. The grand opening of the elder playground, Fit Spot, in West Waluga Park is scheduled for July 11. Niland has invited the members of this board to suggest ways that the LAB or Library can be part of the 50+ effort. 7. Council Update-Skip O'Neill None 8. New Business None 9.
