5. Director's Report-Bill Baars
• Maxine Collins passed away on September 18. She was a great Library supporter as a long time volunteer,
Friends Board member, and Library employee. She will be greatly missed for her enthusiasm and upbeat
personality.
• Monday, October 12, was the first Clackamas County all library staff in-service. Lake Oswego has had an
Innovation/Marketing Committee for several years and they have been responsible for putting on the
annual All Staff In-Service for Lake Oswego Library. As a result of their success, Baars suggested that the
County libraries form a like Innovation Committee with the charge of organizing this event that was held
on Monday. It was a great success and strides were made in getting folks to think about how these libraries
can work together even though the Clackamas County libraries are very different from each other having
varying financial support from their cities, varying sizes, varying collections and often different policies.
Baars served as Master of Ceremonies for the day.
• Tomorrow is the national Drop, Cover and Hold Day. There is also a Library all staff meeting in the
morning before opening and evacuation plan will be reviewed. After the meeting there will be an
evacuation drill.
• The architects who are working on the Circulation/Work Room remodel submitted preliminary plans. Staff
are reviewing the plans and giving input. The plans include adding RFID and automated materials
handling. The LINCC network office has proposed that automated materials sorting could possibly be
done there before they are sent to the libraries. This proposition could change the work room plans.
6. Chair's Report-Nancy Niland
• Niland asked Gene Arnold if he had any news from the 50+Advisory Board to share. He said they hope to
have the City Manager attend their next meeting. They are working on determining their goals for next
year.

CITY OF LAKE OSWEGO October 14, 2015
Library Advisory Board Library
• Lots of great events are planned for the 10th year of LO Reads including speakers and displays. After the
announcement of the book selection there have been folks contacting the Library with suggestions.
7. Friends of the Library Report-Nancy Niland
• Niland met with the Booktique manager and volunteers. Some of the volunteers have been working there
for 15 and 20 years. They are all very dedicated to the Booktique and have many good ideas. Niland hopes
to implement some of these ideas to increase marketing and visibility of the store.
• There is a space at Palisades for Booktique storage and a work party will meet there to sort and organize
these boxes.
• They would like go to Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, and other local groups to get the word out about
the store.
8. Council Update-Skip O'Neill
• The Council has been very busy since returning from the August break with the Wizer block,North
Anchor, the Tree Code, Boones Ferry Project, fiber-optics and more.
• Fiber-optics would bring faster download service with high speed internet to the community. This will
bring to the City a greater ability to monitor things that are not possible now. For the Library it would
increase usage as people would come here for the speed. This project is still in study session and the
Council will soon pick the company they would like to have pursue the costs etc.
• A North Anchor proposal has been received which includes a hotel, retail, apartments, and parking.
9. New Business
• None.
10. Adjournment
The Library Advisory Board meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted
