5. Director's Report-Bill Baars
• In the storm yesterday a tree in the parking lot fell down on three cars. No one was injured but one of the
cars belonging to a staff member was totaled.
• The elevator continues to have issues leveling and the recommendation is to warm it up each day to help
the leveling even out. The elevator company has inspected it several times and Facilities continues to
monitor it.
• Other facility issues this month are roof leaks, boiler repair and a broken window.
• Last Sunday,November 15, the Library invited 21 local authors and illustrators to showcase their books.
The "Keeping It LOcal" event was the idea of Youth Services Manager, Andrea Milano, who often gets
requests from authors to speak at the Library. The event was greatly attended.
• Planning for Lake Oswego Reads continues. Baars shared a draft copy of the brochure with over 40 events
planned. Baars handed out copies of the book "Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher". This year an Events
Subcommittee has been formed to help with planning that already includes events at OMSI, Portland Arts
Museum, Lewis & Clark College and many other venues.
• Baars and other staff visited the Hillsboro Shute Park Branch Library to look at their automated materials
handling system. The County libraries are considering implementing RFID (radio frequency
identification). The library directors, management groups and network will meet in early December to
decide what is needed and how to proceed. How the cost will be distributed among the libraries and
network is yet to be determined.
• The remodel of the workroom will include plans for an automated return and sorting system for materials.
Hennebery Eddy, the architects working on this project, also worked on Multnomah County libraries and
Hillsboro libraries which have automated materials handling systems.

6. Chair's Report-Nancy Niland
• Niland shared a draft copy of the year end fundraising letter that the Board sends out each year. She said
the letter will be mailed the end of November.
• The next meeting Niland would like the Board to discuss and update the LAB Goals, Work Plan, and
Annual Report. Ross will email to the Board copies of the current reports.
• Niland would like to cancel the February Board meeting as it conflicts with the night of the LO Reads
author talk featuring Timothy Egan. She encourages the Board to attend that evening and also attend as
many LO Reads events as possible.
7. LO Reads Update-Bill Baars
Included in the Director's Report
8. Friends of the Library Report-Nancy Niland
• A recent article in the Lake Oswego Review about LO Reads said that Friends of the Library would be the
first to receive copies of the books and author talk tickets. This has led to an increased Friends
membership.
• The Friends new website is up and running and folks can now pay for or renew their membership online.
The newsletter will now be available on the website.
• The next Friends Board meeting is scheduled tomorrow night. A guest speaker will share information on
how to market and increase sales for the Booktique.
• Niland would like to increase online book sales and two computers are now used in pricing books.
Booktique sales have increase from $10,000 per month to over$12,000.
9. New Business
• None.
