CITY OF LAKE OSWEGO March 11, 2020 <br />Library Advisory Board Library <br /> <br />1 <br />Present: Cliff Perigo, Kent Studebaker, Jessie Halligan, Kay Steele, Rick Slaven, Jacquie Siewert-Schade, Ed <br />Steinberg, Sherry Swackhamer, Cale Garrett, Rachel Garrett, Jessie Halligan, Michael Cole <br /> <br />Staff Present: Melissa Kelly, Nell Diamond <br /> <br />1. Call to Order and Roll Call/ Introductions <br />The Library Advisory Board (LAB) meeting was called to order by Chair Cliff Perigo at 7p.m. on <br />Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the Lake Oswego Public Library (LOPL). <br /> <br />Cale Garrett, Rachel Garrett, and Michael Cole introduced themselves to the Advisory board and shared <br />their occupational and personal information. Jessie Halligan introduced herself as the Friends of the <br />Library liaison to the LAB. The Library Advisory Board in turn introduced themselves to the newest <br />members of the board. <br /> <br />Perigo shared that there would be alternative call-in meeting opportunities available for future meetings, <br />based on the anticipated closures of facilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. <br /> <br />2. Minutes Minutes motion to approve by Slaven with one amendment requested; seconded by Steinberg. <br />Minutes were unanimously approved (7-0). <br /> <br />3. Director’s Report- Melissa Kelly <br /> <br />Kelly shared the success of the Multicultural Book Day event, held by the Children’s Library in January, <br />noted that stories were being read in different languages and various cultures were shared. In addition, <br />the Lake Oswego Public Library was featured as the “photo of the month” in the LO Monthly magazine. <br /> <br />LOPL hosted a recent tour for third graders from Oak Creek Elementary, who were impressed with the <br />automated materials handling (AMH) machine. February events were numerous focusing on <br />LO Reads. There were programs held almost every day, sometimes two in one day. <br /> <br />Highlighted LO Reads events: <br />• Art show and reception: over 220 people <br />• First Tuesday music: over 90 people <br />• Climate Change Anxiety 80 people <br />• Dr. Beckham-Changes in the Land: 120 people <br /> <br />Future programs were reviewed by Kelly and author program featuring Elizabeth Rush is currently <br />delayed until May 5th, and might need to be further scheduled due to COVID 19 <br />Initial COVID 19 cleaning protocol was shared with the LAB, including staff protocols as well as new <br />services provided by the janitorial staff. Currently no changes to the lending practices but at this point <br />the services to the homebound patrons have been postponed due to safety concerns. <br /> <br />Kelly shared that the library has a dedicated page to COVID 19 based on the information provided by <br />the Oregon Health Authority. Kelly is also working closely with the other Directors and other city and <br />health officials, some programs may be cancelled in the future but at this point there are many unknown <br />factors. Kelly shared that there are masks on order as well as sanitation and cleaning supplies. <br /> <br />
