Approved Minutes - 2016-09-19Cal I W9912 ELI :l 41911vd/ tele] Sustainability Advisory Board Minutes September 19, 2016 Call to Order / Roll Call Vice Chair Paul Soper called the September 19, 2016 meeting of the Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB) to order at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Main Fire Station, 300 B Avenue, Lake Oswego, Oregon. Members Present: Members Excused/Absent Staff: Public: Announcements from Board and Staff Bob Sack, Richard Canaday, Lisa Adatto, Sarah Hussion, Paul Soper, Karl Friesen, Ashley Hall, Karthik Sreedhar Sharon Lumbantobing, Eliot Metzger, Joe Buck Jenny Slepian, Sustainability and Management Fellow, David Franks Jenny Slepian announced that Mackenzie, the architect for the new Police station may be coming to the October meeting. Lisa Adatto mentioned that LOSN is working on community solar projects with local churches and looking for investors. Upcoming events include the Eco Film Festival on October 16, and the Green home tour on October 29. SAB volunteers are needed for marketing. Approval of Minutes The Board unanimously approved the July 18, 2016 meeting minutes. Public Comment None. Regular Business A. Review Agenda Vice Chair Soper reviewed the meeting agenda. B. City Council Update/City Council Goals Update No City Council update. C. Solar Strategies Richard Canaday suggested that the board develop a strategy for public outreach by the end of the year. Karl Friesen asked how aggressively they want to press the strategy and what methods they should use. Lisa Adatto suggested having Doug Rich, who is working on community solar for LOSN, come talk to the board. Sarah Hussion suggested mentioning the solar goal at the Eco Film Festival. Jenny mentioned that she and Jon Gustafson had met with Scot Siegel to see what could be done to make information on the City website more clear for those looking to install solar. Having a checklist on the website could help people to understand what they need to do. The board discussed whether SAB should recommend a vendor, or just remove the roadblocks. Energy Trust may want to come out and do a workshop in Lake Oswego. D. 2016 SAB Goals and Recap The board reviewed the 2016 goals for progress. Goals that have completed include: Tree Code review and revision, Iron Mountain Park planning process, setting a solar installation goal and Block 137 check in. Goals still in progress include: residential composting (Ashley and Sarah to work with Jenny on outreach), residential demolitions (Bob would like to follow up with Planning), bike lanes (Bob would like to work on), work with LOSD (Eliot to continue), creating a permanent sustainability coordinator position, eco film festival, sustainable home tour, water efficiency, eco -tourism, and the sustainability scorecard. The board will drop Clackamas County Leaders in Sustainability certification as City Hall and other city buildings are not built to a standard where certification is feasible. The board was unclear about the backyard habitat certification goal. Sarah Hussion would like to work with Eliot on connecting with LOSD. Richard asked the new youth members what topics they are interested in. Karthik is interested in water issues, while Ashley is interested in agricultural issues and connecting kids with agricultural, farm, and food issues. The board went around and mentioned topics they are interested in looking at for next year's goals. Stephanie would like to add air quality, Sarah would like to add recycling, Karthik would like to add water efficiency, and Lisa and Karl would like to add development of a climate action plan.
