Proclamation
GREGG� Disability Awareness Month
WHEREAS, the City of Lake Oswego designates March as Disability Awareness Month, a time
to promote inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities;
and
WHEREAS, disabilities encompass a broad range of conditions, including physical, sensory,
intellectual, developmental, and mental health disabilities, affecting people of all ages,
backgrounds, and abilities; and
WHEREAS, individuals with disabilities contribute meaningfully to our communities,
workplaces, and society when barriers to inclusion are removed and accessibility, support,
and accommodations are provided; and
WHEREAS, Disability Awareness Month is an opportunity to educate the public about the
experiences and rights of individuals with disabilities, challenge misconceptions, and
advocate for policies that promote full participation and independence; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the importance of fostering an inclusive society by ensuring that
schools, workplaces, and public spaces are welcoming and accessible to all, while also
supporting the self-determination and dignity of individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, all residents are encouraged to take part in Disability Awareness Month by
learning about different disabilities, advocating for accessibility and inclusion, supporting
organizations that serve individuals with disabilities, and engaging in conversations that
promote respect and understanding;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Lake Oswego City Council, proclaim March
2025 as Disability Awareness Month in the City of Lake Oswego. Let us seize this month to
deepen our understanding, extend our support, and reaffirm our dedication to building a
more inclusive and accessible society.
