Absent members; Josselson, Stark
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bill Gerber at 7:35.
The minutes of April 8 were approved with one addition which
was the word "community" before "goal Number 9.
Gregg Baldwin, Architect and Planner was introduced by the
chairman. Mr. Baldwin has been involved .in a study regarding
the proposed Lake Oswego Transit Station. Mr. Baldwin explained
that Lake Oswego is one of the very few communities that has a
high percent of its population which work in their own area.
He mentioned that 8% of the people ride Tri-Met to work, 25%
of the people who live in Lake Oswego work here also and that
85% of the people who live here stop here.
Regarding State Street, approximately 250 buses per day use the
street. He also feels that with a transit station and feeder
bus system, not a park & ride station, State Street would become
much less conjested and that business concerns would be better
Off.
From a previous study he was involved in he stated that over the
next 15 years Lake Oswego will need 150 - 200,000 sq.ft. of
office space. He is also of the opinion that the C.B.D. needs a
more or higher density and that we should consider mix use -
residential and commercial in the future. Additional comments were
that Fred Meyer uses an eight minute trip as a rule of thumb for
future shopping center planning and that for every 1,000 sq.ft.
of floor area they need three hundred people to serve it. The
committe thanked Mr. Baldwin and asked if he would be available
to return before the committe in the future. He indicated that
he would be more than happy to.
The Grimms Corner questionaire was reviewed and finalized.
The committe broke into two groups and discussed preliminary
issues which will be compiled and given to the members at our
next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:20
