BACKGROUND Over the past couple of years a series of linear properties along Springbrook Creek have been acquired by the city and the natural area restored. This area has been added to the city's park rolls but not been officially named. The Natural Resources Advisory Board (NRAB) approached PRAB with a request to consider naming these properties "Pennington Park" to honor long time natural resources advocate Ruth Pennington. Mrs. Pennington was extremely dedicated to preserving the city's parks and open spaces. She was instrumental in preserving Springbrook Park and participating in the Springbrook Park Trail Master Plan development. She was also a strong advocate for promoting stream protection and natural areas enhancements throughout the city. Therefore,PRAB voted unanimously at the April 24, 2002 PRAB meeting to support NRAB's request as an appropriate way to recognize her contribution to the community.
