In the engineering and construct ion indu stry,tH e term "Tn.rik tine" is never used to c esicribe pipelines of •
any diametral' cony eying potable w sten. The term T i u nk Line i5i m ast comrr only u sed when c ascribing
pipelines conveying wastewater or storm water by gray ity. 9y way of example, in the recently complellec
LCIIS project, wastewater coiled EIC from indiy is ual N orr es and k u siresses is transported through a systerr
of "collection sewer" lines. Collection sewer lines are usually 6 to 12-inches in c iarr eter, but th ere is no
hard and fast rules on c iarr eters that tri f ger a ch ange in the terminology'used to describe pipe function.
These collection sewers u Itimately combine and drain to "'talo nk sewe ns". The new Osiwef o Lake
Interceptor Sewell collects anc conveys wastewater from four "trunk sewens" entering the Lake —Main
Calnal,West Bay, 5pningbrook anc Lost Dog Creek. These trunk sewers vary)from 22-inches to 1I8•inch Els in
c iarriater.
The ICI project team will soon apply for land a se approval tc design and construct th El pipeline shown on
th a prior page. In the paragraph aboy e, it is noted the term "trunk line" is never usec to c esicribe potable
waterlines regardless of diaimeten. Therefore, it woulc be reasarat Ie to argu e that tH e code prohibiting
tri rik lines from the WR zone dcies riot apply to the eansti u d ion oil waterlines. Th is is why the City
Attorney's office is recommending that th is am k iguity Le addressed through the pnoposied arrant m anti to
LOC 90.02.
