I . Roll Call : Present were Committee members Frank Zagunis
( Chair/ Rowing ) , Geoff Hollister ( Sailing ) , Mike Thiel
( Fishing ) , Don Potter ( Canoe/ kayaking ) , and Ed Osterman
( Motorboating ) . Tom Kelly from the Recreation Department
was also present.
II . Approval of Minutes of the April 5 , 1989 meeting was
postponed until the next meeting .
III . Open Public Communications : None
IV. Old Business
The Committee continued discussing the progress of the
overall report being prepared for the PROS Committee. All
members agreed upon the necessity of having at least one ( 1 )
half-time City employee ( or committed volunteer) to be at
the Oswego Pointe Waterfront activity center to coordinate
the people coming down to participate in various City
sponsored activities (classes , boat rental , etc . ) . This
person would not necessarily have to be skilled in any of
the sports , but could be one of the teachers or
coaches/assistant coaches of one or more of the activities .
Other than that conclusion , much of the discussion focused
on the Oswego Pointe Marina site , which should accomodate
all of the special interests out of one facility . This
should make it easier for the City to control the quality of
exposure its citizens get to any of these water activities .
V . New Business
The Committee discussed other potential projects , such
as expansion of water activities to the Tualatin River
and greater riverfront activities at George Rogers
Park . These areas could be developed after the success
of the Oswego Pointe phase is determined .
Next meeting set for Wednesday June 7 , 1989 ( later
postponed to June 21 , 1989 ) at City Hall , Recreation
Division Conference Room .
Adjourn .
