Barges Arrive this Week

This week, construction barges will be assembled in the lake for construction of the new interceptor. Barges will be seen in the west end of the lake, Lakewood Bay and Half Moon Bay.

West End of Lake
A 160 ft x 55 ft Ground Anchor Barge will be
deployed in the West end of Oswego Lake. This drilling barge will set
the anchors for the new buoyant pipe at the bottom of the lake. It will
house two cranes, water tanks and a construction office, and its
perimeter will be marked with white buoys. The barge will be lit at
night. While boating near the barge please travel counter-clockwise,
keeping the white buoys to your left.
The drilling barge will be deployed into the west end of the lake this week. It will be in its first location for about a week and a half before it begins moving west. A smaller supply barge (40 x 60 feet) will travel between the drilling barge and Alder Point. It will carry materials and equipment.
Lakewood Bay and Half Moon Bay
A
micro-piling barge will also launch into Lakewood Bay sometime in the
next two weeks. A micro-piling barge is 60 feet x 40 feet. That barge will
be served by smaller material barges that are 20 x 20 feet. Another
supply barge will begin operation in Half Moon Bay to work on the
existing manholes along the current interceptor.
