Drinking Water Quality

Producing safe, high-quality water for Tigard and Lake Oswego's customers

Construction is starting on a new water treatment plant that will reliably provide customers in Tigard and Lake Oswego consistently high-quality drinking water year-round.  This is a great benefit to both communities because the new treatment process at the plant, called ozone treatment, will remove more impurities from the water. Together with two proceses called, "Ballasted Flocculation and Granular Activated Carbon Filters"  the treatment system will use less chlorine for disinfection and because the system is designed to withstand large seismic events, water delivery will be more reliable.

The new treatment method is one of the best avilable technologies for removing impurities from drinking water.  It will:

• Provide an additional treatment barrier to protect public health
• Consistently produce water that is pleasant tasting, year round.
• Reduce the amount of chlorine needed for disinfection.
• Remove a broad spectrum of water contaminants including pathogens, algal toxins, disinfection by-products, pharmaceuticals and personal care products
• Represent proven technology. The number of ozone installations is increasing in Oregon and across the U.S. due to its ability to provide multiple water quality benefits.
