Understand the Value of Your Water
Tap water is the most important thing in our lives. It provides public health protection, fire suppression, drives our economy and supports the quality of life we enjoy. Most Americans take water, and the systems that bring it to and from homes and businesses, for granted. We turn on the tap, and safe drinking water reliably comes out. We flush the toilet, and don’t have to think twice about where it goes.
These are our water and wastewater systems – underground, out of sight and out of mind. You can’t see them, but they ensure we are able to go about our daily routines without a second thought. They work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, to bring clean, safe water to us and take it away after we use it to be treated before it is safely released back into the environment.
The Partnership’s high-quality tap water is rigorously tested for over 90 contaminants and goes through six stages of treatment before ending at your tap, all for less than a penny per gallon. By comparison, a 16-ounce container of bottled water costs approximately $1.00 and is not required to meet the same robust testing standards as tap water.
The true value of safe tap water cannot be quantified, considering all that customers receive when you turn on the tap. October 10 is Imagine a Day Without Water – take a moment to understand the true value of tap water and the role it plays in our daily lives.
