Construction Update 12/20/19

New Traffic Shift

In late November, the new temporary lane configuration on Boones Ferry Road of one lane in each direction and a center turn lane was extended to Oakridge Road (at the post office). Boones Ferry Road and all businesses remain open, but please plan extra travel time through the area and travel cautiously. Thank you for your patience as the traveling public gets used to this new traffic shift.

Concrete Pours and Mason Work

The project met its first major concrete milestone this week, when new concrete curbs were formed and poured on the west side of Boones Ferry Road, between Madrona Street and Firwood Road. Sidewalks, curb ramps and driveway aprons will follow over the next month.

During the concrete pours, we will notify property owners and businesses ahead of time of any temporary driveway closures or access coordination efforts. Thank you for your cooperation and patience!

Earlier this week, the mason workers arrived to begin placing stone veneer on the new walls! Pictured below, masons started forming the pattern on the wall at the corner of Madrona and Boones Ferry.

The featured photo above shows concrete being poured last night for the remainder of the retaining wall at the corner of Bryant and Boones Ferry (Bank of America).

Temporary Signal

Also last night, crews coordinated with Clackamas County to install and activate a new temporary signal at Oakridge/Reese/Boones Ferry intersection. The existing signal heads and mast arms were removed. The poles will soon follow, making room for the joint underground utility trench.

Multiple Crews

There is active work and multiple crews operating throughout the entire corridor. With the work zone expansion north of Quarry Road, crews are continuing to progress with the utility undergrounding operation. Conduit and vaults are being installed on the west side of the road, heading towards Oakridge Road. This work is being conducted at night with flagged traffic.

Some utility companies (Comcast, Centurylink) have started pulling their lines through the newly installed conduit and configuring their vaults in the area south of Quarry Road. This will continue over the coming months. PGE is expected to arrive for their switchover in the first quarter of 2020, switching over services, and eventually removing the above ground power poles. Some of this work is taking place during the day, and some at night. Any planned shutdowns for customers will be coordinated by the utility companies, and typically occur after business hours.

With the work zone expansion and lane shift north of Quarry Road, this has allowed crews to clear and remove landscaping, saw-cut the asphalt and prepare for the illumination and gas line work on the east side, which will continue over the coming month or so.

Stormwater Lines

Crews have recently been installing a storm manhole and storm line across Madrona near the intersection of Boones Ferry. During this work, expect flagged traffic on Madrona.

In early January, crews plan to start working on installing a new stormwater line on Reese Road, near Lake Grove Avenue, working towards Boones Ferry, then progress south of Reese Road on Boones Ferry towards Bryant Road. This work will be conducted at night, with lane closures and flaggers.

Quarry Road Radar Sign– December 30

Crews need to configure some equipment on the newly installed speed radar feedback sign on Quarry Road. This is planned for Monday, 12/30 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Lane closures will be in place and traffic will be flagged.
