Update on Tree Regulation Amendments Project – Upcoming Meetings

Posted Tue, 03/10/2026 - 8:17am

Dear Subscribers,

The City is continuing work to update Lake Oswego’s tree regulations, guided by the goals and recommendations of our Urban and Community Forestry Plan. This effort will help ensure the long-term health of our urban forest, comply with state law, and improve the overall clarity and effectiveness of the code.

Since the project began in May 2025, a 12-member Tree Task Force has met regularly to provide input. Community outreach last summer and fall included stakeholder meetings, public events, Council and Planning Commission study sessions, and an online survey. Thank you to everyone who participated!

The City’s consultant team has been working with staff over the past several months to prepare the first draft of the code amendments. These draft code amendments will be reviewed next by the Tree Task Force.

The Tree Task Force will meet on March 19 at 10:30 a.m. to review the draft amendments and provide feedback to the project team on key policy issues. Meeting materials are available on the project webpage https://www.ci.oswego.or.us/planning/pp-24-0006-tree-regulation-amendments.

Following the Task Force discussion, the project team will revise the draft amendments and bring them forward for additional review as follows:

  • April 13 – Joint work session with the Planning Commission and Development Review Commission
  • April 15 – Joint study session with the Parks Board and Sustainability Advisory Board

A study session with the City Council is anticipated in May, followed by public hearings with the Planning Commission and City Council this summer.

Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings or may watch them via livestream on the City’s YouTube channel  City of Lake Oswego - YouTube (Note that you must register in advance to view the Tree Task Force Meetings, which are held via Zoom. See Task Force meeting materials for instructions on registering). More information will be provided as meeting dates approach, and materials will be posted in advance of all meetings.

Please visit the project webpage for updates and additional information.
