Update on Tree Regulation Amendments Project – Upcoming Public Hearings

Posted Mon, 05/18/2026 - 8:50am

Dear Subscribers,

We are nearing the end of the project to update Lake Oswego’s tree regulations, guided by the goals and recommendations of our Urban and Community Forestry Plan. The goals of the project are to ensure the long-term health of our urban forest, comply with state law, and improve the overall clarity and effectiveness of the code.

Since the project began in May 2025, the Tree Task Force has met regularly to provide input to the project team. The Tree Task Force’s final meeting is scheduled on Wednesday May 20th, from 3:00 - 4:00 pm online via Zoom. At this meeting the Task Force will receive project updates and a report back from recent study sessions with the Planning and Development Review Commissions, the Sustainability Advisory Board, Parks Board, and City Council that were held in April and May. The Task Force will also discuss any remaining policy issues before the draft code amendments are finalized for the public hearing with the Planning Commission.

Following the Task Force meeting, public hearings on the draft code amendments will be held as follows in the City Council Chambers on the 2nd Floor of City Hall, 380 A Ave.:

  • Tuesday, June 8, 2026 at 6:30pm – Public hearing before the Planning Commission
  • Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 3:00pm – Public hearing before the City Council

Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings and provide testimony or may watch them via livestream on the City’s YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRzkGahZ1s7gSodjT9pHY3g. (Note that you must register in advance to view the Tree Task Force Meetings, which are held via Zoom. See Task Force meeting materials for instructions on registering). Materials will be posted in advance of all meetings and available from the project webpage.
