LU 26-0014 Tree Code Amendments

 

Project Background / Summary: 

Guided by the recommendations in the City’s Urban and Community Forestry Plan, the Tree Regulation Amendments Project updates the City’s tree regulations to support long-term urban forest health, improving clarity and effectiveness of regulations, and assures compliance with state law. Work began in May 2025 and is expected to be completed in Summer 2026.

A 12-member Tree Task Force, appointed by the City Council, is providing input throughout the process. The project also includes public outreach and work sessions with the boards and commissions and City Council.

Project Updates: 

07/21/2026 - City Council Public Hearing

The Lake Oswego City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 21, 2026; 3:00 p.m., to consider the proposed amendments.

06/22/2026

On Monday June 22, 2026, the Planning Commission adopted the findings, conclusion, and order recommending approval of the draft Tree Regulation Amendments to the City Council. The adopted findings, which include the Recommended Code Amendments, are available in the  Public Record folder.

The City Council hearing to consider final adoption of the Tree Regulation Amendments is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 3:00pm. 06/08/2026

On June 8, the Planning Commission made a preliminary recommendation that the City Council approve the proposed amendments and directed staff to return with the draft Findings, Conclusions, and Order for consideration at its next meeting on June  22, 2026.

05/20/2026 – Tree Task Force Meeting #6

The Tree Task Force will hold its sixth meeting on Wednesday May 20th, at 3:00 - 4:00 pm.  This will be an online-only meeting conducted via Zoom.

05/05/2026 - City Council Study Session 4

City Council will hold a study session on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, staff is seeking direction on four key policy issues before finalizing the draft tree regulation amendments for a public hearing with the Planning Commission.
